A
CALL FROM THE BASKET
![]()
For years upon years, it has been our tradition to pass collection baskets in and out of the pews each Sunday to “give back a portion of what He has given to us”.
The shiny emblem comes past us and each one places in the collection basket whatever they are able to offer to God for that week.
We’ve placed much confidence in the fact that God will be pleased if we set aside at least ten percent of what we have earned. Something in us has made us feel secure if we have put our cash in the plate. We’ve determined that we have done Him a favor and that somehow God is thrilled to His core if we give Him some bucks. Our stock has been put in that very thought that God will be satisfied and our budget will be balanced if we toss the check in the basket.
I think that God would like to step inside our assembly and turn over our silly contributions and begin to invite us to something more pleasing. Yes, the bills need to be paid and yes the church has expenses that need to be covered, but way more importantly than that is what God desires to see happen.
His desire is
that we would stop putting our cash in the basket and start putting our lives in
it. Offering our money blesses the
work of the church, but think what would happen if we went before the very
throne of God and said, “This morning, God, I’m
giving you my life.”

How’s
that for an offering?!
