“ARE WE THERE
YET?”
Think for a moment about the wagon
trains of a century ago. What was their goal? Why did thousands
of men uproot their families from the comfort of eastern cities?
What caused those people to risk their lives and the lives of their children
on the trail for months at a time? The answer to all of these questions
is- the West. Countless people heard the promises of prosperity,
open spaces, and limitless opportunity – and they responded. Young
and old, families and singles, men and women left the safety of their childhood
homes in order to see those promises fulfilled in their own lives.
I wonder though, how many of those wagon trains made it to their destination.
Certainly some of them were defeated in violent ways by the cruel mountains
that stood between them and their new lives. But how many just gave
up? How many expeditions were influenced by the challenges of their
environment to change their goal? How many settlements were started
on this side of the Rockies because the challenge was just too great?
May God forbid that we make
the same mistake. Remember, God has already saved us by the blood
of his Son, end of story, mission accomplished. However, God’s not
done yet. 2 Thess. 5:23 says: “May God
himself, the God of peace, sanctify you through and through.”
So, while we have been saved, we have not yet arrived at the point of maturity
desired by our Father. He’s not done with us yet. Don’t get
too comfortable; don’t settle down, because we’re moving on. Grace and
peace,
Ethan
